Land Acknowledgement
As a Black woman, I am no stranger to the colonialist culture we currently live in. I too am a settler here on Treaty 7 as this is not the land of my ancestors. I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge traditional and ancestral territory of the Blackfoot Confederacy: Kainai, Piikani and Siksika as well as the Tsuu T’ina Nation and Stoney Nakoda First Nation. The traditional territories of the Indigenous peoples of the Treaty 7 region and Métis Nation of Alberta, Region 3. I respect the histories, languages, and cultures of First Nations, Metis, Inuit, and all First Peoples of Canada, whose presence continues to enrich our community.
The Indigenous community has touched my life and I will to continue do work that not only seeks justice for the Black community but for the Indigenous community as well.
